24 voices (6 of each voice part) will make up the ensemble known as Honor Choir. Honor Choir will perform for Choral Festival, Home Concerts, and Contests. Honor Choir may be divided into 2 choirs based on balance and blend after the large group has been auditioned. These choirs will be know as Congregational Choir and Chamber Choir. The Chamber Choir will sing for community events and at our Lutheran Elementary Schools. Congregational Choir will travel and sing in GPL Association Congregations. Division and group size is subject to change based on the auditions. Both Chapel and Chamber Choirs are year-long commitments.

Per state regulations, GPL can take one quartet to SD All-State Chorus (one Soprano, one Alto, one Tenor, one Bass.) In addition to the one quartet an alternate quartet will be selected should one of the original quartet members become unable to fulfill their role in their quartet. The alternate quartet will attend all rehearsals, but will not attend the All-State event. Membership in All-State Choir is a two month commitment.

Students may audition to be part of multiple choirs. The audition process is the same if you are interested in one or all choirs. Each audition will take about 10 minutes. If a student wishes to audition as both soprano and alto or tenor and bass, the audition time may be extended. Additional preparation is required as noted below. You need only be present for your audition time. If you cannot find a time that works, notify me ASAP.

The auditions will take place in front of a panel of judges who will score the audition based on the following criteria:
Prepared Solo (40%)
This is to be any solo you wish to use to demonstrate the abilities of your voice. Should not exceed 32 bars.
It does not need to be memorized, although presentation and preparedness will also be considered in the solo score. An accompanist will be provided, you may bring your own, or use a karaoke accompaniment track.
Part Singing (20%)
While being accompanied, you will sing the part for which you are auditioning on a predetermined piece of music.
Patriotic Selection (15%)
Sing America the Beautiful unaccompanied - you will get the starting note.
Sight Singing and Tonal Recall (15%)
Sight Singing will consist of 12 bars of music that you have never seen. The first note will be given.
For each Tonal Memory exercise, the example will be played twice before you will be expected to sing it back.
These range from 5-7 pitches.
Presentation (10%)
How you interact with people is an important trait for membership in all choirs. Maintain a pleasant demeanor throughout the recording process. Smiling, eye contact, and enunciation is key.
